Houseplant Festival Talk | From Aloe to Yucca: the Queer Ecology of Houseplants
The talk invites all curious minds interested in seeing houseplants from a new perspective.
Join Queer ecologist Connor Butler to discover the ecological history of our favourite houseplants. Before they sat on our windowsills, plants were doing their own thing. They have evolved over millions of years, developing relationships with insects and uniquemethods of reproduction and survival.
We seldom take time to consider the intimate relationship between the yucca and the yucca moth, the ferns that can change sex, or the fig wasps that once pollinated that small dried-up tree in the corner of your bedroom.
Connor is an ecologist and environmental educator who has dedicated over a decade to fostering positive connections between people and the natural world. With the aim to help Londoners see “ordinary” plants and animals from new perspectives, Connor has encouraged over 6,000 people to take time to appreciate the smallest details in nature and to show love for the often unloved species on our diverse planet.
