Join us for the rare opportunity to experience a very special day at the Sandringham Estate, the much-loved country retreat of Their Majesties The King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The sixty acres of formal gardens retain some of the same layout they had when King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra purchased the estate in 1863, while at the same time five generations of Monarchs have made many additions and enhancements over the years, all of which makes this a very personal garden.
The North End Garden, planted in an informal cottage-garden style was created by Geoffrey Jellicoe in 1947. In 2023 the new geometric Topiary Garden was added, bringing a space for peaceful contemplation for visitors.
New tree and shrub planting has also been undertaken across the garden in recent years. Spring is the perfect season to enjoy colourful flowers and blossom in the gardens, with swathes of bulbs including daffodils, along with rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias in full bloom.
We meet at 09.45am at the Visitor Centre café for coffee then we meet Head Gardener Jack Lindfield who will lead us on a fascinating garden tour revealing the stories behind the historic trees and elements within the garden, as well as telling us about the new developments. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask Jack questions.
We will enjoy a private buffet lunch together after our garden tour. In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to visit Sandringham House and also Sandringham Museum with its fascinating collection of artefacts and vehicles connected to the Estate.
The remainder of the afternoon will allow us plenty of time to wander at leisure in the gardens until they close at 17.00 if travelling by car, or until our coach departs (16.15), for those who travelled by train, back to King’s Lynn station.
The Garden Museum is the only museum in the UK dedicated to the art, history and design of British gardens and our aim is to celebrate gardening, nature and all things green through our programme of exhibitions, events, and learning activities.
As an independent charity that relies on the generosity of supporters, our programme of Garden Visits plays a vital role in our income stream. We can only continue our work thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Together we can bring the delight of gardening and the joy of gardens to even more people.
This event has been organised by the Garden Museum’s Garden Visits Committee. We recommend you read our Garden Visits Charter and Refund/exchange policy before booking your place on any of our Garden Visits.
