Cooking Masterclass | Herbs with Rachel Davies

Join cookery teacher Rachel Davies for a 3 hour cookery masterclass in our learning studio, as we focus on herbs in cooking: using them to flavour enhance and as the star of the show.

Herbs are wonderful and fragrant, they can be delicate or hardy, exotic or growing in our public spaces and gardens, they have the potential to add flavour and interest to dishes and yet they are so often overlooked.

Join chef and cookery teacher Rachel Davies as we explore how to use herbs of all kinds, some familiar and some less so, to make delicious food.

This class is a combination of hands on and demo by Rachel. The class includes a sit down lunch and a recipe pack to take away.

Sample Menu
Persian Kuku Sabzi (a baked omelette filled with chopped herbs) with a yoghurt, cucumber and fresh mint sauce
Herb oil drizzled honey roasted pumpkin with puy lentils and marinated feta
Tabbouleh
Chocolate bark with dried edible flowers and herbs
Poached plums with tarragon.

Open to all levels of skills and interests. This class is suitable for Adults 16 and over.

*This class is part of our hands-on monthly masterclass cooking sessions, which focus on specialist topics or advanced cooking techniques.  Sessions are usually on Sunday and held in the Garden Museum’s food learning studio. Each class is 3 hours, and will include tastings or a full meal eaten together depending on the course. All profits from our cooking masterclass series help to cover food costs for our community programmes.

With a degree in Theology and no culinary ability whatsoever, Rachel’s passion for cooking started while on VSO in Zambia. Having never cooked before, she was forced to learn fast whilst living in a village with no supermarket. So, she started baking her own bread, making granita using lemons from her garden, and searching for recipes wherever she could find them, and the rest, as they say, is history. After graduating in Cuisine and Patisserie from Le Cordon Bleu, Rachel went on to work with some of London’s most inspiring chefs at Galvin Bistro de Luxe in Baker Street, Lanka Patisserie in Primrose Hill, and Divertimenti Cookery School.
In 2010 Rachel started Rachel’s Kitchen as a way to share her passion for great food using quality ingredients.
Rachel has taught thousands of people the confidence to create delicious dishes in the kitchen. She is a judge for the Great Taste Awards and the Quality Food Awards, was voted runner up ‘Best Cookery School Tutor’ in the UK Cookery School of the Year Award 2012, and was a finalist ‘Best Young Rising Star in the Cookery School Awards 2013 and 2012. Her classes are unique due to the personal, fun and friendly atmosphere created throughout.
With her relaxed approach, fun teaching style and hearty flavours, Rachel’s Kitchen has become the cookery school of choice for both private and corporate clients, and for brushing up on your cooking skills whilst smiling at the same time.
