Jekyll often dispatched designs to clients by post with a list of plants to be ordered from her nursery. This design for Apple Tree Farm House at Chorley Wood, the home of Sir Henry & Lady Muriel Wood, shows a 150” (50 m)-long border is a simple diagram of which plants to put where. In the designer’s mind, however, it is a three-dimensional picture of how the plants will grow.
