Explore the museum’s collection of objects which tell the story of British gardening from the 16th century through to today.

The museum cares for important and rare objects such as a Tudor thumb pot, an early device which was used for gentle watering, and our Mortlake tapestry dates from the 1630s and depicts the earliest image of a woman gardening in our collection. From historic garden tools, seed packets and garden design plans to paintings, botanical art and photography inspired by the joy of gardens, explore a rich collection of garden history to discover the stories of great gardeners, and our relationship with gardening through the centuries.
