Discover a floral installation built in the Garden Museum by students in SAGE's FutureFlowers accessible floristry training programme.
This year, Peckham-based floral studio SAGE started FutureFlowers, a free training programme for non-white ethnicity people to learn the basics of floristry. The first and only free floristry training programme in the country, FutureFlowers aims to lessen the financial and emotional barriers non-white ethnicity people face in gaining training and work experience in the floral industry.
For the final class in their three month programme, the Garden Museum is hosting the class as they build a large floral installation, such as you might see at a wedding or corporate event. The floral installation will then be on display for Museum visitors to view and enjoy from 26-27 September.
The class will be making a surreal floral scene, that sprouts from the ground and twists, turns and bends like a set from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The ancient walls of the Garden Museum, housed in a deconsecrated medieval church, make the perfect setting for such a mysterious and intriguing installation.
