Catalogue | Derek Jarman: My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon

£20.00

Derek Jarman’s garden at Prospect Cottage, Dungeness evokes resilience, protest and an uplifting sense that if a garden can be made here – that is, on a stony beach, overlooked menacingly by a power station – it can be made on anywhere.

Discover the story of Derek Jarman’s garden, the sanctuary he found there, and the hope we can all glean from gardening, in this catalogue published for our 2020 exhibition, My garden’s boundaries are the horizon.

Beautifully cloth-bound and illustrated with photos of the garden at Prospect Cottage, Jarman’s childhood, film stills, artworks and garden journals, this catalogue includes reminiscences and essays by Howard Sooley, Anna Pavord, and Christopher Lloyd.

Underneath the jacket, the debossed rules and type on the cover echo the tar weatherproofed timber fisherman’s hut. The edges of the book are painted to match the doors and windows of the cottage that Jarman painted in striking yellow.
