The Triumphal Arches, Vauxhall Gardens

On the right of this engraving is the statue in memory of the composer George Frederic Handel. His “Fireworks Music” was first performed in Vauxhall Gardens to an audience of 12,000. The gardens were also the first place in Britain to exhibit contemporary art. Coloured engraving by Johann Sebastian Muller, (aka John Miller, 1715–c.1792), who was born in Nuremberg, Germany, but came to live in Vauxhall Walk, and was buried in St Mary-at-Lambeth.
