Branch Out | Picture Frame Making

This workshop is part of the Garden Museum's new Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more!

Join artist and woodcarver Alice Ridgway to make a picture frame inspired by the vibrant style of Charleston House.

We will start with a blank wooden frame and attach pine moulding of your choice to the edges. Alice will demonstrate some pearl bead carving on the moulding which can be added to your design.

We will then paint our frames taking inspiration from the modernist shapes and chalky colours of Charleston House and artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant.

You will then have the chance to make a pastel artwork to display inside your frame.

Don’t forget to take a look around the Gardening Bohemia temporary exhibition to spark your creativity!

Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
