The Language of Vegetables and Fruits: A Poetry Challenge with The Young Poets Network

Let’s cook up some poems together! This spring In Food Learning we’re teaming up with The Young Poets Network at the Poetry Society to get young people inspired to write poems about growing and cooking food.

The Education Team at The Poetry Society approached us earlier this year to invite us to team up on a poetry challenge for their Young Poets Network using food and The Garden Museum as inspiration.

There are a number of different prompts to get you started, looking at ingredients, sights, smells and sounds, or perhaps you’d like to turn the traditional structure of a recipe on its head using poetry?  What kind of jokes might a tomato tell? What would an elegy sounds like from the point of view of a pea, or a bell pepper?

Selected poets will be published on Young Poets Network and sent goodies such as poetry ebooks, seed packets, and posters.

For more info on the challenge, including all the prompts, entry details and prized please refer to The Challenge Page hosted by the Young Poets Network. The Young Poets Network is The Poetry Society’s online platform for young poets up to the age of 25.

This challenge is for writers aged up to 25 based anywhere in the world. The deadline is 23:59 GMT, Sunday 16 June 2024.
