In Your Garden: Katya’s London Garden

In our series #GMinyourgarden, we’re peeking over the fence into gardens across the country to explore their places in our lives today. This week, Katya’s (@london_blooms) London garden:

“The garden is my sanctuary. I work in fashion and my schedule can be demanding so coming home and spending the evening in the garden is very restorative.

When we moved to our house ten years ago the garden was overgrown with hedges and brambles. My vision was to create a garden that had something in flower all year around. Tulips, alliums and daffodils in spring.  Roses, peonies, lilies and lavender in summer.  Dahlias and Chrysanthemums in autumn.  Hellebores and snowdrops in winter. Trees and evergreens provide structure and the flowers act as an ever-changing tapestry of colour between them.

Gardening is a form of mindful meditation. Hours can fly by without me noticing, as I’m watering or weeding or planting.

My garden is a constant source of inspiration. When I design a new collection I always refer to colour combinations in nature and the flowers in my garden.

You can probably tell from the pictures that I’m obsessed with roses!  I have far too many for a small London garden. People often think that they are demanding plants but for me they are one of the most rewarding flowers you can grow.  Roses produce hundreds of blooms from May to October, meaning you can cut lots for your house and lots for your friends too.”
