In our series #GMinyourgarden, we’re peeking over the fence into gardens across the country to explore their places in our lives today. This week, Izzy’s (@for.plantssake) Kent garden:
“This is my garden and it’s more than more than just about plants and growing food. I not only look after it, but it looks after me in turn, maybe in more ways.
My garden is place where I can be present without trying. Here I learn more about myself as much as I do about the plants that are in my garden. As I observe how different plants grow I quickly learn that people are like plants.
Some plants require acidic soil, some require neutral soil, some prefer loamy soil. Different plants require different environments and my job as gardener is create those different areas in my garden for them thrive in.
No two plants are ever the same. I am constantly challenged in my garden to make room for others to thrive who might otherwise be different to me. This is a place where my very being finds peace and kindness. This where I fight climate change, this is where I learn to be kind, this is where I learn to fail well. This is where I find an easier and gentle rhythm to a world that is going at 100km/h. This is more than just about plants it is where plants define everything. This is my paradise.
After 15 years of gardening I am still learning something new every week that I didn’t know before. Gardening is passion which started with one plant for me. It was Prunus ‘sargentii’ and I never looked back.”
