Drawing Workshop | Vanessa Bell: Bloomsbury & Botanical Still Life

Join the Garden Museum and artist Luisa-Maria MacCormack for a drawing class that will transport you into the lush, vibrant world of one of the Bloomsbury Group's most influential artists.

Join Luisa Maria MacCormack of the London Drawing Group as we delve into the exquisite floral still lifes of Vanessa Bell. Known for her bold use of color and fluid brushstrokes, Bell’s botanical paintings capture the delicate beauty and intricate details of nature, transforming simple flower arrangements into extraordinary works of art.

In this session, you’ll have the unique opportunity to draw from a series of stunning flower arrangements set in the serene surroundings of the Garden Museum’s nave. As we step inside the world of Vanessa Bell’s Bloomsbury paintings, you’ll learn to observe and render the subtle play of light and shadow, the rich textures, and the harmonious compositions that define her floral still lifes.

Guided by Luisa’s expert instruction, you’ll explore various drawing techniques to bring your work to life using mixed media and LOTS of colour, with the vibrancy and immediacy that characterizes Bell’s oeuvre.

This class is designed for artists of all levels, providing a supportive and inspiring environment to develop your skills and deepen your appreciation for botanical art. Through a combination of live demonstrations, personalized feedback, and hands-on practice, you’ll gain the confidence to experiment with color, texture, and composition in your own floral still lifes.

Whether you are an experienced artist or a beginner, this drawing class offers a space for growth and creative exploration.
