Join Candida Connolly and Stella Subbiah to view Imagined India, a film partly made in the iconic gardens of Sezincote in Gloucestershire, that brings together the past and the present; the unknown and the familiar.
Have you ever wondered how the relationship between plants, architecture and the body’s experience in space can bring history into focus?
Join Candida Connolly and Stella Subbiah to view Imagined India, a film partly made in the iconic gardens of Sezincote in Gloucestershire. The film screening will be followed by a conversation between Stella and Candida, chaired by Shane Connolly.
They will, in conversation, discuss their own contrasting entrances into the space of Sezincote garden and how the film works to capture the context of that journey and the role of the Garden Museum Literary Festival in creating it.
The film was inspired by the play, Indar Sabha, which is widely regarded as the first of its kind to have been written in Urdu. The story takes place in the court of Indar, King of the Gods, who is accompanied by beautiful fairies, one of whom falls in love with the earthly Prince Gulfam. Enraged at this, Indar clips her wings and banishes her. Upon waking, she finds herself in a green English garden and searches for her way back to that lost paradise.
