London Craft Week Event: Lambeth Wilds – Clay and Community

An exhibition, film screening and drop-in workshop celebrating clay artist Katie Spragg and Lambeth Young Carers’ residency at the Garden Museum.

Their project focuses on wild, opportunistic plants and the way they may be overlooked or ‘hidden’, celebrating and making visible both these plants, and communities local to the museum, such as young carers, that may also be overlooked or hidden. From their research and having learnt new skills in ceramics and animation the young people have created a collaborative digital stop-frame clay animation.

See the completed animation alongside Katie’s research, drawings and ceramics tests for a major site-specific installation she is currently developing for the museum.

Have a go yourself; Katie and the young people will be on hand to demonstrate techniques for modelling plants and creating pressings and textures in clay. Add your contributions to a three-dimensional, collaborative nature diary that will evolve and grow over the two days and inspire the final commission being developed for the museum.

There will also be a short guided walk (30 minutes) running at 12pm each day, exploring nature in unexpected places around the museum.

This event is part of Lambeth Wilds, a research residency by Katie Spragg in collaboration with the Garden Museum.
