Cookery Masterclass | Norteña: Authentic Family Recipes from Northern Mexico with Karla Zazueta

Join Mexican chef Karla Zazueta for a three hour cookery masterclass in our learning studio kitchen, exploring authentic family recipes from northern Mexico. All recipes are taken from Karla's forthcoming book Norteña.

In this cookery masterclass with Karla you will learn how to master the art of making a corn tortilla, learn about the different types and uses of Mexican chillies, make a good spicy salsa and how to eat a cactus!

Sample Menu (to be confirmed) 

  • Creamy spicy salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Corn tortillas
  • Pinto fried beans
  • Fried taquitos filled with mashed potato
  • Tomato rice
  • Cactus salad

This class is a combination of hands on and demo by Karla. Open to all levels of skills and interests. This class is suitable for Adults 18 and over.

*This class is part of our hands-on monthly vegetarian masterclass cookery sessions, which focus on specialist topics or advanced cooking techniques.  Sessions are usually on Sunday and held in the Garden Museum’s food learning studio. Each class is 3 hours, and will include tastings or a full meal eaten together depending on the course.

    Karla Zazueta

    Karla Zazueta is a self-taught chef, Mexican cookery teacher and food writer. She has been teaching her Mexican heritage, recipes and techniques through her cooking classes. She also hosts Mexican supper clubs every end of each month at her family house. Her recipes have been futured in The Guardian, BBC Food, NatGeo Food Magazine and other important publications. In her new first cookbook, Norteña, she shares the story of all the recipes and from the northern Mexico.
