This workshop is part of the Garden Museum's Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more!
Join artist Nancy Cadogan for a charcoal drawing workshop inspired by her Garden Museum exhibition, The Lost Trees, which celebrates the symbolic role of trees in all our lives as well as their historical and emotional significance as markers of time and place.
In this two-hour session, Nancy will guide you through observational drawing techniques, focusing on the qualities of the trees around us. Beginning with a short talk and demonstration, she will share her approach to working with charcoal and how trees inform and inspire her creative practice. Participants will then create their own tree studies, capturing texture and form. This workshop is suitable for all abilities – whether you’re new to drawing or looking to deepen your skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. Everyone is welcome.
