This workshop is part of the Garden Museum's new Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more!
This workshop focuses on mending the wear and tear in your everyday knitted items through the art of darning. You’ll learn key techniques in woven darning, starting with knitted squares to learn the basics before moving on to repair your own garments. Whether it’s socks, jumpers, scarves, or other knitted pieces, this workshop will teach you how to restore them with skill and care. Please bring any damaged wool or knitted items you’d like to explore for repair. Darning materials—including needles and yarn—will be provided in class and you’ll also receive some to take home and continue your practice. No prior experience in darning, knitting, or needlework is required.
Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
