Cedar soap dish
£35.00
This soap dish came about because of the closure of a number of shops and business during the pandemic and perhaps as a subliminal response to the messages we have been receiving about personal hygiene. Traditionally this type of soap dish is made from Japanese Hinoki Cyprus Wood but I found a supply of Western Red Cedar in my shed so it made an ideal substitute under the circumstances as it has a natural preservative which is the reason it is commonly used in the construction of greenhouses. In the process of making this I learned a lot about Japanese woodworking techniques such as the way the two halves are secured together by a simply housing joint with no nails.

Pastry brush
£12.50 with bark £15.00 without bark
Pastry Brushes are made in a number of different ways but the natural soft texture of a brush made from pure bristle is much less likely to damage the surface of delicate pastry than a synthetic fibre. Each individual bristle is secured firmly into the wooden stock and although there might be some initial shedding there should be no further loss after the first wash in warm water.

This Table Brush and Pan set is equally at home on the breakfast table as it is on the work bench or office desk. The naturally formed shape of the wooden stock provides a comfortable grip and its smooth untreated surface is the ideal place to appreciate the markings of the exposed wood grain. Generously filled with pure hog bristle this brush fits neatly into its pan which is made from high quality european birch plywood. The pairing of both makes an interesting contrast between the manufactured and naturally formed.
