Secret Garden Visits 2021: Tania Compton’s Spilsbury Farm Garden, Wiltshire

Spend a day roaming designer Tania Compton's exquisite sweeping six acre gardens in Wiltshire. This visit is part of our Secret Garden Visits fundraiser to raise urgently needed funds to save the Garden Museum from the impact of the coronavirus.

The garden at Spilsbury Farm is a mixture of formality and wildness. Focused on ancient oak trees an orchard next to the house leads to vistas lined with clipped blocks and pyramidal hornbeams in long meadow grass peppered with perennials. The house is approached by a gravel garden planted with Perovskia, Euphorbia and Santolina. Borders billow with eryngiums, delphiniums and cardoons and roses. The tennis court is being transformed by Jamie into an enclosure of the Compton’s wild collected plants.

Guests will be invited to bring a picnic lunch and wander round the gardens at their leisure. A full address for the garden will be provided to the buyer, along with the contact details of the garden owner so you can arrange parking and timings.

We are very grateful to Garden Museum Trustee, garden designer and writer Tania Compton and her husband Jamie Compton, former Head Gardener at Chelsea Physic Garden, for opening up the garden at Spilsbury Farm for our Secret Garden Visits fundraiser.
