The Art of Hand-Spinning Cotton:
Hand-spinning is the ancient craft of transforming raw fibre into thread, a practice that has shaped cultures and livelihoods for centuries.
In this hands-on workshop hosted by Khadi London, we will explore this timeless craft, diving into its rich history, cultural significance, and role in uplifting communities. Learn how hand-spinning—a craft on the brink of extinction—remains relevant today as a sustainable, mindful practice.
Guided by expert spinner, Asha Buch, you’ll discover the meditative rhythm of using a traditional portable spinning wheel, known as the peti-charkha, and learn the basics of spinning cotton into thread.
This workshop is open to all ages and levels.
Khadi London is a knowledge hub dedicated to promoting regenerative textiles and preserving traditional practices, connecting heritage crafts to a responsible fashion & textile industry.
Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
