An Uncommon Harvest: join us for a day of community, learning, and delicious celebration at the Garden Museum.

In collaboration with The Drop LDN, we are hosting our first ever Harvest Festival this autumn: a day full of workshops, talks and stalls inviting visitors to discover the diversity of UK-grown food, celebrating little-known crops, plant ‘offcuts’ and the ingenuity of UK growers and chefs in adapting our modern harvest to the sustainability challenges of our time.

We’ll be covering a range of topics, from bringing British beans back to our dinner tables, to a resurgence in heritage grains, and how to start foraging in London and beyond!

The award-winning Garden Café will feature a specially curated seasonal menu by Head Chef Myles Donaldson, showcasing the best of the harvest, from game to gourds: book a table

Beautiful British Beans

Panel discussion chaired by Sheila Das, with bean trailblazers Bold Bean Co, Hodmedod’s and The Honest Bean Co, exploring why beans, pulses, peas and legumes are the unsung heroes of sustainable farming and nutrition. Discover their environmental benefits, from enriching soil to reducing carbon footprints, and learn how they’re gaining recognition as powerful, versatile ingredients in modern British cuisine.

Fruity walks

Urban fruit tree forager, Divya Hariramani, will be taking small groups on a journey around Lambeth to showcase the urban fruit trees you might have missed and the stories behind how they arrived and the people who planted them.

Foraging 101: Weeds in the City

Discover the hidden world of urban foraging in London and beyond. Wild food is readily available in the city, you just need to know where to look and London-based Charlotte Gordon will be sharing exactly how to do that.

Dan Saladino x Natoora on Eating to Extinction
1.45pm-2.30pm
Food journalist and host of BBC Radio 4: The Food Programme, Dan Saladino will be in conversation with Natoora, a renowned force in building more sustainable food systems, discussing endangered foods around the world and how Natoora are helping revive an abundant and diverse harvest. Dan will be signing his book Eating to Extinction after the talk.

Plant Offcuts cooking demos

The Garden Museum’s Food Educator Ceri Jones will be sharing recipes from her latest book It Starts With Veg, showing us how we can use plant ‘offcuts’ that normally end up in the bin to make a delicious feast.

    e5 Bakehouse is a sourdough bakery based in Hackney and Poplar, with a certified organic farm in Suffolk, we have a micro co roastery that supplies both our sites. All of our breads and pastries are a product of love, time and freshly milled, organic heritage flours; more than half of which is grown on our farm and milled on our stone mill in our Hackney bakery. We have two bustling cafes serving fresh breakfast, brunch and lunch. Making food that is healthy, for ourselves and for the planet, and sharing this process in an open manner with as many people as possible are key aspirations of our company.

    Natoora, a renowned force in building more sustainable food systems, will be joining to share information about their Farm Fund (an initiative dedicated to raising capital for the next generation of agroecological growers) as well as their stunning, peak-season vegetable boxes, full of rare and wonderful seasonal goods.

  • Zak's Kombucha

    Zak's Kombucha

    Zak's Kombucha makes award-winning kombucha pushing beyond the limits of low/no alcohol drinking: brewed authentically in small batches, fermented in glass jars, and enjoyed from recycled glass bottles. Zak's seasonal flavours - often using foraged and overlooked ingredients from Kent - celebrate the many wonderful plants and produce this country has to offer, and are available in very limited runs.

  • Honest Bean Co

    Honest Bean Co

    The Honest Bean Co is the brainchild of Adam, a Yorkshire farmer with a passion for British produce and regenerative agriculture. Determined to come up with a way to divert delicious British-grown fava beans away from export to other countries he started looking into different ways they could be used. After a lot of ideas, testing and product development The Honest Bean Co Roasted Fava Bean Snacks hit the shelves in 2021. Since then, they have appeared on Aldi’s Next Big Thing, released more delicious flavours and continue to shout about the massive nutritional and environmental benefits of fava beans.

  • Two Fields Olive Oil

    Two Fields Olive Oil

    Two Fields produce small batches of delicious extra virgin olive oil in Zakros, Crete. What started as two brothers and 200 olive trees has now become a community collective . They’re teaching organic regenerative farming on the ground and helping local farming families get fair, secure livelihoods. Today they’re proud to partner with the likes of Ottolenghi, Brawn, Spring, Rochelle Canteen and more.
