Calling all gardeners: we are recruiting for a short-term gardener
Our Head Gardener Matt Collins will be leaving us for an extended break this coming summer, following the arrival of his newborn. We are therefore looking for a part time (4 days a week) gardener to cover the period June, July and August; to maintain the gardens, cut flower beds, horticultural community projects and indoor plantings. This is a great opportunity for a gardener with talent and enthusiasm to spend three months at the centre of a busy gardening hub, maintaining gardens designed by Dan Pearson and Christopher Bradley Hole.
‘2020 seems to be a year of change for me, with the (imminent) arrival of a new baby and work life now split between gardening and writing about gardening. Having also begun contributing travel articles for publications like the Guardian and Spectator – combining an element of horticulture with regular travel writing (which my wife Clemmie has mockingly dubbed ‘florism’) – it seems like a good moment to take a break, hang out with family and, hopefully, spend a little time abroad. No doubt some of this summer’s experience will find its way into my new monthly column for the Telegraph, which traces some of our much loved garden plants back to their native environments. I’m looking forward to returning to the museum, with renewed energy and ideas, in September.’
