Join us at The Garden Museum this summer for a day-long creative workshop with artist Jennie Webber, and learn new techniques to capture the beauty of botany.
We will be sketching from curated still life displays of colourful flora, as well as exploring the Museum’s gardens with our sketchbooks. All abilities are welcome – from beginners to seasoned artists looking for a new challenge. You will be taught the basics of observational drawing, then progress onto tone, texture and colour whilst experimenting with a variety of different media. Attendees will have the opportunity to try their hand at inks, watercolours and pastels and workshop leader Jennie Webber will be demonstrating techniques and providing creative guidance throughout the class. Our aim is for everyone to go home with a deeper understanding of plants, a greater confidence in using different materials and artworks they can be proud of!
All materials will be provided, including paper and drawing boards, but please feel free to bring along any particular media you enjoy working with. In addition, we’ll learn about the history of the Museum, the unique design of their gardens and some botanical facts about the plants we’ll be drawing. Refreshments will be provided for the class and we will pause for a lunch break at 1.00pm where attendees are welcome to sample the delights at The Garden Museum restaurant or bring their own lunch. Please note lunch is not included in the ticket price.

Jennie Webber
Jennie Webber
Jennie Webber is a freelance illustrator and printmaker, specialising in etching. Her inspiration is drawn from nature and is heavily influenced by themes of conservation. From unusual animals, to marine life and botany, Jennie’s illustrations aim to encourage an understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
Her first children’s book ‘It Starts with a Seed’ won the inaugural Margaret Mallet award for Children’s Non-fiction in 2017 and has been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Award. Her forthcoming book ‘The Coral Kingdom’ aims to raise awareness for conservation issues affecting the Great Barrier Reef.
In 2014 Jennie founded Wild Life Drawing, a drawing class that aims to reconnect Londoners with animals and nature through creativity. Jennie is an experienced teacher and has designed creative workshops for the Natural History Museum, British Science Festival and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
