The Land Army Growing Vegetables for the Navy

The women’s land army was set up to increase Britain’s food production during the Second World War. Here the women are picking cabbages for the Navy and wartime battleships can be seen with the Isle of Wight behind. Hartrick was a water-colourist and illustrator and this work was commissioned by the Ministry of Information to publicise the Dig for Victory campaign.
