‘Plant Trays on a Window Sill’ by Christiane Kubrick

This painting depicts two trays of germinating seedlings on a window sill. Outside the window is a snow-covered garden with a man shovelling snow next to buried shrubs. This scene was painted by the artist and actress Christiane Kubrick in 1970 and depicts the home in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire where she lived with her husband, the film director Stanley Kubrick, and their three daughters between 1965 and 1979. The man featured in the background of the painting was the Kubrick family’s gardener, a man named Bill. The painting was painted at around the same time as Stanley Kubrick was filming A Clockwork Orange.
