Wonderful gardens in North Oxfordshire 17th May - Sold Out

Our tour today takes in three inspiring gardens in the North Oxfordshire countryside. First we will be the guests of world-renowned garden photographer Andrew Lawson and artist Briony Lawson at Gothic House, Charlbury. This 1/3-acre rectangular garden, enclosed by high walls, has been created around an ancient apple tree and includes an ingenious perspective path. The garden has been through many transformations, with adjustments made for nature including 16 nesting holes for swifts, a deep frog pond and stinging nettles grown in pots for butterflies. Our visit coincides with Andrew and Briony's exhibition of paintings and sculpture in the house and Andrew will show us a collection of photographs he is donating to the Garden Museum's new archive.

Within five minutes' walk we will then discover the exquisite 1 1/2-acre private garden of The Priory, with its formal terraces, topiary and Italianate features. Andrew will accompany us on our visit to this jewel of a domain.

After a two-course seasonal Cotswold lunch with wine at a nearby inn, we will travel to Pettifers, Lower Wardington, a lovely example of "borrowed landscape". This 1 1/2-acre garden, rich with perennials, grasses and topiary, is the creation of Gina Price over three decades. Surprises, innovative complexity and a captivating landscape, both within the boundaries and beyond, are to be discovered behind the 17th century stone farmhouse, set back from the village street. Gina will give an introductory talk and then head gardener Polly Stevens will guide us on a tour through the contrasting vistas and perspectives.

We will start from Charlbury station and transport between gardens is provided.

The day includes morning coffee, a delicious two-course lunch with wine and afternoon tea.
