Contemporary Hertfordshire Gardens with a Twist 8th June - Sold Out

Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam are award-winning and internationally respected designers who create stunning contemporary gardens and landscapes. On this very special day the Wilson McWilliam Studio partners invite us to join them at two contrasting projects that exemplify their innovative approach and high design standards.

We will first visit The Old Rectory, Aldbury, where refreshments will be served on arrival. Laid out on a number of levels, the private family garden to this Arts and Crafts property is full of surprises. Andrew and Gavin have redefined the original structure to create a series of beautiful linked spaces, which reveal themselves as one moves through them. Traditional elements - terraces, loggia, pergola, high walk and enclosures - have been given a contemporary twist and are bound together with exuberant planting. The centre piece is a large lawn, bounded by richly planted borders. A small productive garden, nuttery and wild garden complete the picture.

Following a country pub lunch we will visit the award-winning gardens at Dew Pond House, Chorleywood. This new home, designed by Jane Duncan Architects, has wonderful contemporary gardens. Following a traditional format, the elegant, wildlife-rich ‘dew pond’ is lined with ground chalk and cement. This is echoed in the freestanding walls, which punctuate the spaces, guide the eye and afford shelter to the delicate planting of the gravel garden. The pool reflects a majestic ancient oak tree. A wildflower meadow complements new perennial style planting, framed by impeccable hard landscape detailing. Afternoon tea will be served here.

We will start from Kings Langley station and transport between gardens is provided.

The day includes morning coffee, a delicious two-course lunch with wine and afternoon tea.
